Summer can be a combination of increasing temperatures, longer hours of daylight, higher levels of UV combined with the arrival of biting insects. These factors can create a recipe for irritating skin conditions which can dramatically impact your horse’s comfort levels and overall well-being. Horseware's fly rugs offer optimum protection against annoying flies, daze and insects. They also offer protection against strong UV rays.

Horseware and Sustainability

Horseware wants to increase their sustainable production methods and reduce their carbon hoofprints. The vision at Horseware Ireland is to become full circular and they are aligning their sustainability goals by offering a sustainable horse rug. In 2022, they aim to save over 4 million plastic bottles from being disposed into landfill and the environment. As part of their future collection Horseware is very excited to launch the Horseware Amigo Plant-Dye Turnout, the first turnout made from natural DYE in the Equine industry.

The new durable collection from Horseware

This summer, Horseware introduced several new blankets to the market.

The Horseware Amigo Plant-Dye Turnout is made from 1200D polyester fabric that is waterproof and breathable. It boasts all the unique features you would associate with an Amigo Bravo turnout, including a V-front closure and sure fit neck design, eliminating pressure on the shoulders so it doesn’t rub, allowing for more comfort whilst grazing.

In addition to the Amigo Plant-Dye Turnout, Horseware also introduces the Amigo Plant-Dye rug into the Future Collection. Made from a 600D polyester, this 200g stable blanket keeps the horse snug and warm in the stable. The quilted fiberfill helps trap air for superior and long-lasting heat retention.

For the Spring Summer 22 season Horseware is launching their new Amigo AmEco Bug Buster as well as their new Amigo AmEco Bug Rug, which are both also fully made from the eco-friendly rPet polyester fabric. rPet Polyster fabric is made from recycled plastic bottles. We can assure that the strength and durability of rPet Polyester fabric is fully comparable to standard polyester materials used across similar Horseware products.

These rugs are highly breathable and ensure good ventilation during hot summer days to avoid overheating. They offer strong sun reflecting properties in the light silver colourway providing 65% UV protection. With this system, you can add a waterproof layer to many of our fly rugs to protect the horse from light summer showers.

The Amigo AmEco Bug Buster is made from the most durable mesh material within the Amigo Fly range. It comes with an extra deep cut to ensure maximum protection from pesky flies.

SS22 Horseware Ireland Fly Collection

Knowing the needs of the horse is essential to determining what product and features the blankets need. That's why, for the summer season, Horseware has re-evaluated the Rambo and Amigo fly rugs and adapted them to the horse's needs.

First up, is the revamped Rambo Optimo Summer Sheet. Particularly suitable for broader horses, this Rambo Optimo Summer Sheet has the ultimate in shoulder freedom and movement thanks to the patented split technology which allows the front of the rug to articulate laterally and vertically, moving, turning and extending following your horse's natural movement.

Next is the iconic Rambo Protector. This rug is designed for horses that are tougher on their rugs. It is also a fantastic choice for horses that are prone to skin irritations or summer itching. They are also launching the Rambo Protector in a disc front closure option.

The Rambo Hoody is another super choice for sweet-itch prone horses and offers superior durability and protection from summer skin irritation. The Hoody style is named after the integrated neck cover that offers close contact coverage from ears to tail. This style of fly rug is an ideal choice for horses susceptible to photo sensitisation or even coat bleaching, protecting the horse from insects and UV rays from top to tail.

Next up is the Amigo Airflow perfect for those horses who are prone to overheating, thanks to its hybrid design. The Amigo Airflow has a cotton and polyester mix upper section which helps deflect the sun, protecting the horse from harmful rays and summer showers.

The Amigo Bug Buster, it's an all-round favourite of our customers who want to provide general protection for their horses during the spring summer season. It is an excellent value rug that effectively combats flies.

The Rambo Plus Fly Mask offers a spacious dome around the horses’ eyes for comfort and optimum eye protection. The durable textile outer fabric with a soft fleece edging offers comfort and protection, and comes with a detachable nose piece. The mask provides 65% UV-protection and is available in sizes Small Pony, Pony, Cob and Horse.

Last in line are the Rambo Fly Boots. Products such as the Rambo Fly boots made from 3D air mesh offer lightweight, breathable, UV protection and are easily washable to keep legs protected without adding weight or heat during the summer months. Using fly boots can offer dual protection from both insect irritation and protect sensitive skin from sun damage.
