Horseware - Fly masks

Horseware rugs are produced in Ireland with attention to detail and with high quality materials. Horseware constantly strives to produce the best and have become a leading manufacturer.

Horseware rugs are tested for a minimum of one year before they hit the shelves, in many cases they are tested for up to three years. The rugs are also tested on a minimum of 20 horses before they go on the market.

Rambo rugs are made of ballistic nylon, a fabric first developed for bulletproof vests worn by airmen in World War II.

Many horses suffer from a lot of flies near their eyes in the summer. This can cause irritation and the eye can even become infected. A fly mask can offer a solution. There are many different types of fly masks, with ears, without ears, with ears and nose, without ears but with a nose and so on. What you should especially pay attention to when buying a fly mask is that the fly mask is free of the eyes and does not press against them. Most fly masks have so-called "coupe seams" at the place of the eyes so that the fly mask stands a bit forward at that spot. Now every horse's head is different so it may be that one model fits your horse better than the other. Below you can see our wide range of fly masks!

Why are flies attracted to the eyes of a horse?
The tear fluid contains proteins and this is food for the flies, therefore they will often be near the eyes of the horse. In addition, flies cause the eye to tear, creating a vicious circle of excessive tear production which attracts even more flies.
