Skincalmin Relief Lotion 500ml

Skincalmin Relief Lotion has an immediate soothing effect and reduces itching. The Relief Lotion supports the healing capacity of the skin. Skincalmin Relief Lotion is often used on horses with summer itch and rash.

The lotion is easy to use, very mild and safe. It is not necessary to wear gloves when applying the lotion.

Instructions for use for summer itch
Apply the lotion generously to the problem areas. With the help of the spout you can easily apply the lotion between the hairs of the tail and mane. Use the lotion preventively at the beginning of the season to avoid summer itch and to prevent rubbing. Usually, 2-4 times a week is sufficient. Start applying the lotion immediately at the first symptoms. If you start later, that's no problem either. Apply the lotion to the sensitive skin for an immediate soothing effect and to support the natural recovery of the skin. For the first 14 days, apply the lotion to the problem areas at least once a day. If necessary, apply twice daily. Preferably before the horse goes outside and back in the stable. As soon as the sensitivity of the skin decreases or disappears and the skin has recovered, you can reduce the use to 3-4 times a week and later possibly to 1-2 times a week. When the itchiness increases again, for example on warm windless days, temporarily increase the frequency again. The lotion is very mild and can be used on the most sensitive parts of the skin. To be on the safe side, always test the lotion on one spot before applying it to all problem areas. Avoid contact with mucous membranes and eyes.

Combination with a summer blanket
If your horse normally wears a summer blanket, you can first try the lotion in combination with the blanket. As soon as you notice that the skin has calmed down, you can try to leave the blanket off for a day. If that goes well, then a few days, etc. Of course, you can also start without a blanket right away. You need to judge this yourself. Spray your horse daily with Skincalmin Neutralising spray to neutralise body odour.

Advice for use with rasp
1. Itching and crusts on the lower legs can be caused by a mite infection. Therefore, always consult a veterinarian first to rule this out. If mite is detected, the vet will advise you to wash the legs with a special anti-mite shampoo. Once mite has been ruled out/killed, you can start the treatment with Skincalmin Relief Lotion.
2. Cut or shave some hair if necessary and apply the lotion generously on the skin daily. Massage in well.
3. As soon as the crusts come off, you can carefully remove them. Do not remove scabs that do not come off by themselves. Make sure you do not cause any new open wounds!
4. Repeat the treatment with the lotion daily until all scabs have disappeared.
5. Prevent new spots from forming by continuing to treat the skin with the lotion once every 3-14 days.
The development of rasp can be caused by reduced resistance, shortages of certain vitamins and minerals or an excess of waste products in the body. With austere breeds, too much starch and sugars can make the rasping worse. Therefore, do not only treat the rasp externally but also take a critical look at your horse's diet.
6. Vitalbix horse feed is a sensible choice for these horses as a supplement to roughage (low in starch and sugars, balanced with vitamins and minerals).
7. Omega-3 fatty acids from linseed have an anti-inflammatory effect. Vitalbix Linseed Oil + Vitamin E can be supportive in the treatment of rasp and summer itch.
8. You can help the body to get rid of waste by feeding it herbs such as nettle, cleavers, dandelion or a special Detox supplement.

If in doubt or if the symptoms get worse, always consult a vet.
