The bus reins is a standard mouthpiece. The rings cannot move independently, which allows for more direct communication and keeps the bit relatively still in the mouth. Additionally, the bit prevents the lips from getting pinched, which means bit rings are not necessary with this mouthpiece.
The mouthpiece with rings is a variant of the double-jointed bit. The rings in the middle encourage the horse to play with the bit. This increases tongue activity, leading to more saliva production and allowing the jaws to relax more, which helps the horse to release more easily in the mouth.
The Sweet Iron bits are made of steel and have a distinctive blue color. Sweet Iron develops surface rust through contact with (air) moisture, which tastes sweet and naturally stimulates the horse's saliva production. As a result, the horse will foam more, leading to better acceptance of the bit. This rusting process (oxidation) changes the blue color of the TRUST bits to brown-gray.
